Three arrested after chase and crash on I-35 in Austin

KYLE, Texas – Kyle Police on Wednesday reported the arrest of three men in connection with a series of carjackings.

The arrest occurred after a high-speed chase that ended in a collision in Austin.

Kyle Police responded to a vehicle theft report around 3:53 a.m. in the 100 block of Bunton Creek. Officers spotted the suspects’ vehicle leaving the scene and initiated a pursuit for several miles that ended when the suspects crashed into a utility pole on the shoulder of I-35 North near Exit 230 in Austin. Three of the four suspects were arrested as they attempted to flee on foot.

Those arrested were identified as Carlos Moreno Ramirez, 27, Kevin Moreno Ramirez, 25, and Edwin Escobar Alvarez, 31, all of Austin. Police recovered two stolen firearms and narcotics from the suspects’ vehicle.

“We commend these officers for their quick response,” said Kyle Police Chief Jeff Barnett. “Their quick actions have not only gotten the criminals off the streets, but also helped return stolen property to the victims.”

The suspects face multiple charges, including vehicle theft, engaging in organized criminal activity, theft of a firearm and evading arrest. Escobar Alvarez, identified as the driver, faces additional charges of evading arrest and reckless driving.

The charge against the fourth person involved is still pending.

Kyle PD is asking anyone with additional information on the case to contact them as soon as possible or send an anonymous tip to Stop Crime in Hays County.
