Three 3FM radio DJs cooped up in Glass House, again on a “juice diet” this year.

ANP extension

ANNOUNCEMENTSEdited

In Amersfoort, three 3FM DJs allowed themselves to be locked up in the Glass House for the Serious Request fundraising campaign. Unlike last year, disc jockeys are not allowed to eat anything during a week long promotion. The action has returned to normal.

The interested public can visit at any time of day this year, where visiting opportunities were still limited last year due to corona.

Donations

Sophie Hijlkema, Rob Janssen and Barend van Deelen were locked in the Glass House at noon. There they will be playing music for the next week that listeners can request for a fee.

The amount raised will go to the Het Vergeten Kind foundation, which is committed to helping children growing up in an unstable family situation. The public can also donate money in other ways, such as through a letterbox at the Glass House.

NOS Youth News took a look at the preparations for Serious Request this week:

Last year, Serious Request was also organized in Amersfoort. So DJs were allowed to eat during the action. Just over €2 million was raised for the World Wildlife Fund that year.

With no food, on a “juice diet” and with an audience, this year’s Glass House looks just like pre-2018 editions. In that year, 3FM decided to pull the plug on the ‘action. Instead, DJs walked across the country to raise money for charity. However, those walking campaigns raised less than Glass House, which returned last year in a slightly scaled-down form.

Market share

Radio station NPO 3FM has been dealing with declining ratings for a long time. Last year, the public broadcaster held about 2.2% of the market, half less than five years earlier and just a quarter of 3FM’s market share in 2012.

The channel’s market share has increased slightly in recent months. In the September-October period, 3FM recorded a market share of 2.6%, an increase of 0.4 percentage points over the same period last year. The Web site Radio frequency reported earlier this month that the channel’s morning show in particular is on the rise.
