Corona patient Matthieu Onderdijk (37) ended up in hospital with severe corona complaints and reported about this on social media. In addition to wishing to get well, he was also told that he “would be paid by the RIVM to pretend he is ill”. Against it Eindhovens Dagblad he says he is surprised at how many messages he received from conspiracy thinkers. “I would have been paid by the government for posting this, and I would get a bribe. Apparently there are a lot of people who think it’s all fake.”
Physical Harassment
Members of a corona protest group calling itself ‘Demonstration of the People’ made in Eindhoven last week pictures of people in a test street of the GGD and called anti-coronal gums. Calls from these activists would show that they are convinced that RIVM is hiring actors to go to the test street.
According to the GGD, this was the first time that protests were made at a test street. The organization has noticed a growing aggression against its staff. According to the national GGD, 1 in 5 telephone conversations are grim. Spokesperson Sonja Kloppenburg: “Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion and frustration, but the way in which is disputed.”
Hospital staff also grapple with cases of harassment. A recent poll by the professional association NU’91 shows that more than half of the healthcare personnel have been confronted with verbal abuse and threats in recent months, about which The Telegraph previously reported. Personnel are beaten, kicked or spat on. A quarter of the staff would have come into contact with physical violence.
Conspiracy
And then there are parliamentarians who are regularly attacked in The Hague, adds journalist Rudy Bouma. In front of News hour he made many reports about criticism of corona measures and about followers of QAnon, a conspiracy theory that came over from the United States. They demonstrated last Friday on the Museumplein in Amsterdam.
