“The emergency situation in Montluçon is catastrophic for the two other hospitals in the Allier because the activity of the emergencies will be transferred to them. There is a risk of exhausting the emergency services of Vichy and Moulins ”, alarms Dr Davy Murgue, director of Samu 03 and president of the medical commission for the establishment of the Moulins-Yzeure hospital center.
There are now 6.6 full-time equivalent emergency workers in Montluçon, whereas there should be twenty to run the emergencies and the Smur (mobile emergency and resuscitation structure). More worryingly, they should only be 3.5 on May 1st.
Three hundred people in Montluçon (Allier) against “the imminent threat of the closure of emergencies”
“Because a hundred visits to the emergency room potentially not taken care of at the Montluçon hospital, this risks making fifty in each of the two other hospitals which are, of course, less badly, but still experience tensions. “, explains Doctor Murgue.
A not new situation
Doctor Davy Murgue, director of Samu 03, participates in consultation meetings between the three hospitals in the Allier to find solutions to the shortage of doctors.
The professional recalls that this situation is not new: “Montluçon had already experienced a significant shortage of doctors in the early 2010s. The service then had only three full-time equivalent doctors. Nevertheless, no emergency structure has ever been closed in the Allier. It was not the Montluçon hospital that mismanaged the situation, the three hospitals experienced difficulties in turn and all medium-sized hospitals are faced with the lack of emergency physicians, wherever they are. he insists.
The lack of doctors raises fears of the closure of the emergency department of Montluçon hospital (Allier)
Work with establishment medical commissions, general practitioners, firefighters, private carriers
What solutions to consider? “The emergency physicians will not be able to solve this problem alone, we must imagine other solutions by April. We can no longer rely on the reflexes of the past because there are fewer emergency physicians, but also fewer general practitioners in the city. Nevertheless, these resources exist. It is necessary to think of another organization, to regulate the entries with the urgencies, which implies to work at the same time with the medical commissions of establishment, the general practitioners, the firefighters, the private carriers. »
The central role of the 15
In addition, “the 15th must play a central role”, he insists. Before the summer, we successfully experimented, in Vichy and Moulins, with a call to 15 for people able to call physically arriving at the emergency room. The objective was to allow the services to concentrate on vital emergencies, during the summer, when there are fewer doctors. We may no longer need to open the three sites for all comers. Perhaps we should imagine in the future concentrating only on vital emergencies, for example at night? »
