Threat of DHF at the Beginning of the Year, One Sukabumi Resident Dies

Sukabumi – Cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) in Sukabumi City have increased. At the beginning of 2023, the Health Service noted that there were 43 residents infected with this deadly disease, one of whom died.

“Yes, out of 43 cases, one patient from Warodoyong District died. These weeks there has been an increase in DHF cases,” said the Head of the Disease Prevention and Control (P2P) Division of the Sukabumi City Health Office, Wita Darmawanti, Wednesday (8/2/2023).

He said that one of the reasons for the increase in dengue cases was the unpredictable hot and rainy weather. In addition, public awareness about environmental health began to decrease.

“Perhaps the community’s concern for the health of the environment is a bit lax. So we have to reactivate how to move free of mosquito larvae, for example the one house one jumantik (monitoring committee) movement,” he said.

Regarding fogging efforts, he said, it would be done as a last resort. According to him, the fumigation of fogging sprays poison that kills adult mosquitoes or commonly called insecticides.

“So we actually fogging is not to finish it all, it only kills the adult mosquitoes but the larvae that are still there will live again,” he explained.

Therefore, the Sukabumi City Health Office will try to control dengue cases by inviting the public to care about environmental health. This is because the larvae-free rate (ABJ) for Sukabumi City in 2022 is 91 percent of the target of 95 percent.

“In controlling DHF cases, we are intensifying the 3M Plus steps, namely, draining, closing, recycling and preventing cases such as using mosquito nets, using mosquito repellent lotions, mosquito repellent plants and through the Jumantik 1 House 1 Movement (G1R1J),” he concluded.
