Threads, Instagram’s appendix to directly compete with Twitter, needed just five days after its launch to reach over 100 million subscribers.
However, the initial enthusiasm with the new platform seems to be fading and Mark Zuckerberg admitted, during the presentation of the financial results of the company Meta, that the social network is having difficulties to retain users. The number of daily active users dropped from 49 million to 23.7 million.
“If we have more than 100 million people signed up, the ideal thing would be for all of them, or at least half, to stick around. We haven’t reached that point yet”, acknowledged Zuckerberg, owner of Meta, the parent company of Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram.
Although the current scenario is not ideal, Mark Zuckerberg says that the situation is “normal” and believes that the platform will be able to retain more audiences as new features are added.
Threads has been criticized for the few features it was released with. Meta’s chief product officer, Chris Cox, assured employees that the company is focused on adding more “retention hooks” in order to attract more users to the platform.
Not everything is rosy in Zuckerberg’s empire, but the company continues to show good financial results, having raised a profit of 7.79 billion dollars (7.06 million euros) in the last quarter.
