Threads, the Meta social network competing with X (formerly Twitter), will display advertisements from the beginning of 2025. According to The Informationthis will be a reality from January.
Meta launched Threads in July 2023 and now has 275 million users. But the platform does not have advertisements unlike Facebook and Instagram (which belong to Meta), Snapchat or even X. But this era is now over: Threads will also have advertisements.
It will be light at first. There will be a small number of advertisers in January. But the list will naturally increase over the months and quarters. The Instagram advertising team is handling the project.
Furthermore, Meta does not expect Threads to be “a significant driver of 2025 turnover”Chief Financial Officer Susan Li said during a conference call after the results were released. She also said the company plans to implement more features in the app.
In any case, the arrival of advertisements on Threads is not a surprise. It was obvious that Meta was not going to continue to offer the current experience in the long term. Its objective is to make money and the economic model of these platforms essentially concerns the display of advertisements.
In any case, it will be interesting to see if Threads will be able to attract advertisers who are currently on X.
