Are you experiencing déjà vu? That’s right, we wrote about the higher performance of the Threadripper PRO 7995WX on Linux compared to Windows 11 a week ago, and it came out on average about +20% in favor of Linux. Phoronix now took another measurement with the HP Z6 G5 A workstation, where Windows 11 did the worst in three quarters of the tests and overall +25% in favor of Linux on average.
It doesn’t make much sense to dwell on the qualities of schedulers in Windows 11 and Linux, generally on the qualities of Windows 11 as such or on the usability of a processor with 192 threads in a desktop. This solution is here, and it often shows tens of percent higher performance on Linux (I recommend taking a look at the test details). Let me conclude by reminding you of my perhaps 15-year-old assumption: Windows will one day switch to a Linux kernel. This test is just another reminder that that moment is coming.
