Caracas, Aug 3 (EFE).- Thousands of people took to the streets this Saturday in Marches and rallies in Caracas and other parts of Venezuela to protest against the results of last Sunday’s presidential elections provided by the National Electoral Council (CNE), which declared the president the winner and re-elected Nicolas Maduro.

The protests, called by the largest opposition coalition – the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD) – began in Caracas normally and without significant incidents, despite the large influx of people, both on foot and on motorcycles.

Es the second large-scale demonstration that is taking place at the request of the majority opposition, which is demanding that its standard-bearer in the presidential elections, Edmundo González Urrutiawon the election by a wide margin, supporting his claim with 80% of the voting records that he claims to have in his possession and that he has uploaded to a website.

However, Chavismo insists that the documentation made available to citizens by the opposition is not real, while the CNE has not made public the minutes that, it assures, it will deliver to the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ), if so requested.

The TSJ’s action began after Maduro filed an appeal for protection, following three days of claims, for the high court to carry out an expert assessment of the election results, whose transparency has been questioned by the opposition, various organizations and a good part of the international community.
