Thousands of years old whale skeleton in very good condition found in Thailand | NOW

A very well-preserved whale skeleton has been found in Thailand, writes BBC News Friday. The find is probably between 3,000 and 5,000 years old.

Thai Environment Minister Varawut Silpa-archa has shared images of the skeleton on his social media. Presumably it is a Bryde whale of about 12 meters long.

Experts hope the find will provide more insight into biodiversity and sea levels over the years. The bones were found about 12 kilometers off the current coast of Thailand, near Bangkok.

According to Silpa-archa, 80 percent of the skeleton has been found. Researchers share photos of a scapula and several fins and ribs, all of which appear virtually intact. The almost 3 meter long head is also in very good condition.

The exact age of the bones has yet to be determined. Further research in December should determine the exact age.
