Thousands of women gather in the city center to “oppose the abolition of the leisure department” … Queer Festival in Incheon

A large-scale demonstration against the abolition of the Ministry for Gender Equality and Family was held today in central Seoul.

About 190 women’s groups have criticized the abolition of the Ministry of Leisure as a withdrawal from democracy of gender equality.

The “Incheon Queer Festival” was held in Incheon for the first time in three years.

On a weekend afternoon, about 1,000 women dressed in black took to the streets.

Members of some 190 women’s-related organizations gathered to protest the abolition policy of the Ministry for Gender Equality and the Family.

They raised their voices saying that women’s human rights are not a realm of political choice and that the abolition of the Ministry of Leisure is a setback in history.

Victims of sexual violence also came out and complained that if the Ministry of Leisure was abolished, the victim assistance system would collapse.

In a park in Namdong-gu, Incheon, people wearing rainbow scarves, symbolizing sexual minorities, gather one after another as drumming performances to announce the festival are in full swing.

The Incheon Queer Culture Festival, suspended due to COVID-19, has reopened after 3 years.

They opposed hatred and discrimination, saying they want more LGBT people to walk with me in the square.

About 300 members of Christian and conservative groups staged a protest against the queer festival, but there were no major clashes.
