Maxi Tesla recall in the United States
Just under 3,500 Tesla Model Ys have been recalled in the United States following an advisory issued by NHTSA, the national traffic safety organization. Let’s talk more specifically about 3,470 specimens of the American electric SUV, all produced between May 23, 2022 and February 5, 2023, on which a potential problem could arise which would in particular endanger certain passengers of the vehicle: in particular the backs of the rear seats of the car were targeted.
Back seat problem
Remember that on the Tesla Model Y, the driver’s side rear seat back frame and the passenger side rear seat back frame are attached to the frame of the lower portion of the seats themselves with four bolts each. According to NHTSA, some of these bolts could not to have been screwed according to the expected specifications: if this were the case, the safety belts attached to the seats themselves could not function as intended in the event of a collision, thus increasing the risk of potential injury for anyone seated in the second row. Tesla said it had indeed addressed such an issue in December last year, so it decided to investigate with the supplier to identify the cause, determining almost immediately that a recall would be necessary. .
When will drivers be notified
The Elon Musk-led automaker has admitted it is not aware of any deaths or injuries in road accidents potentially linked to the issue. Either way, the company said it already has notified the recall of all its service centers around February 28, and it will do the same with Model Y owners potentially at risk from April 25: the latter will be invited to bring their electric SUV to one of these service centers, where Tesla personnel will inspect it and, if necessary, make necessary repairs.
