The income limits that determine the right to the contribution have changed from 2020 due to a legislative amendment. The hard income limits, whereby there is no right to housing benefit at all for an income above a certain amount, have been abolished. Since then, the amount of the supplement for a higher income has now gradually decreased. “Even without a change in the law, many people will miss out on the money, but with the new group of tenants who are entitled to the allowance, we expect that even more people will miss the allowance. That’s why our warning,” explains a spokesperson for the Woonbond.

According to the spokesperson, tenants who were just above the income limit in the past may now have rights to the contribution. Tenants can do a test calculation on the website of the Tax Authorities to see whether they were indeed entitled to the allowance.
