In Raalte, Zwolle, Geldermalsen and Oosterhout, action has been taking place by angry farmers since yesterday evening. They blocked the entrances and exits of distribution centers with their tractors.
More than 6000 orders
Albert Heijn was therefore unable to deliver about 4,500 orders in the east of the country and not all supermarkets of the chain have ‘the range that customers are used to’. At Jumbo, there are about 1,700 orders, which may be picked up in the stores tomorrow.

According to farmers’ organization Farmers Defense Force (FDF), these are spontaneous actions by individual farmers. However, the action group had issued an ultimatum to the supermarkets, which ended on Thursday.

FDF demanded that supermarkets hand over 3 percent of their sales to the Farmer Friendly cooperative. In addition, they are angry about an agreement that the cabinet concluded with the opposition on the nitrogen law. By 2035, nitrogen emissions must be halved, an unattainable goal, according to farmers.

The Central Food Agency (CBL) has already indicated that it will need longer to look at the Farmer Friendly idea and not to be pressured with an ultimatum and associated threats. Today the agency echoed that message.
Unacceptable
The CBL calls this type of blockade of distribution centers in this period of Christmas rush and the corona pandemic ‘unacceptable’. “Especially in the busy month of December, the capacity to make up for lost trips is very limited.” According to the CBL, the blockages pose a health and safety risk and many people are blocked as a result.
Albert Heijn wants to talk to the campaigning farmers before Christmas.
