Thousands of secondary school students are without textbooks due to a staff shortage at supplier Van Dijk Education, umbrella organization confirms the VO Council in a message the AD. The students will soon be going back to school or have already started the new year.
Due to a shortage of temporary workers, deliveries of the book packages have been delayed, the newspaper writes. In some schools, not a single student has received the teaching material yet. This concerns, for example, schools of the Pontes School Group in Zeeland, reports Broadcasting Zeeland. The school group has branches in Zierikzee and Goes, among others. According to the channel, 2,800 students have to attend the school year without books to start.
The Association of Secondary Schools, the VO Council, also receives signals that things are going wrong. The council has been in contact with Van Dijk and has insisted on a quick solution. “You have been doing it for years, it is not surprising that there is a peak in crowds at the beginning of the school year,” says a spokesperson.
The umbrella organization cannot say how many students have been affected. “But we receive signals from several schools, then it quickly concerns thousands of students,” says the spokesperson. Van Dijk could not be reached for a comment by the NOS. In 2017, the book supplier also faced delivery problems.
