Surabaya, CNN Indonesia

Thousands of students who are members of the Alliance WELL Surabaya conducted a convoy to the East Java DPRD Building, Thursday (14/4).

The mass of students, who departed in groups using command cars and motorbikes, made the streets of Surabaya congested, one of which was on Jalan Ahmad Yani.

The Coordination of Action for the Surabaya BEM Alliance, S Andre Prasetyo Utomo, said there were at least 3,000 students who took to the streets to demonstrate.

“It’s estimated that there are 3,000 students from all campuses in Surabaya,” Andre said CNNIndonesia.com.

They will first gather at the Surabaya Zoo Monument, then continue the long march to the East Java DPRD building.

“The mass of action will first gather at KBS mas, before leaving for the action point,” he said.

There are at least seven demands that they will convey in this action. The first is to demand the government to evaluate the DMO and DPO policies and their impact on the increase and scarcity of cooking oil in Indonesia.

Second, demanding the government to immediately thoroughly investigate the practice of the cooking oil mafia in Indonesia. Third, demanding the government to evaluate the increase in fuel prices, especially Pertamax and to review intensely regarding the distribution of Pertalite and Solar fuels which are experiencing shortages.

“Fourth, demanding the government reduce the Value Added Tax (VAT) 11 percent considering the economic situation in Indonesia is not doing well,” he said.

Fifth, demand that the government postpone the relocation of the State Capital before the development and environmental management plans are completed considering the very high budget required.

Sixth, condemn all acts of corruption, collusion and nepotism (KKN) in the process of moving the national capital from Jakarta to East Kalimantan. And seventh, implement Agrarian Reform.
