– Until we can analyze the air quality, we have decided to introduce a curfew, says Miguel Ángel Morcuende, technical director at the Canary Islands’ department for volcanic preparedness, Monday.
He says that parts of the cement factory have already been lost in the flames.
The curfew applies to between 2,500 and 3,000 people who live near the cement plants west of the island.
The volcanic eruption at La Palma started on 19 September. In total, more than 6,000 of the island’s inhabitants have been evacuated from their homes.
