More than 66,000 applications for compensation have been made for trips that were not due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Tourists are demanding the return of over PLN 205 million, the Ministry of Development, Labor and Technology reported. He also added that applications for assistance submitted by tourist organizers have a value of approximately PLN 210 million.

Applications for compensation from tourists and applications for assistance to the industry are submitted to the Insurance Guarantee Fund. Payments will be made through the Tourist Refund Fund.

The ministry emphasized that this is the balance of the first weeks of the so-called tourist shield.

– The tourist shield, in force since October, has introduced a number of beneficial changes for the tourism industry. In addition, in October, an act came into force, which provides for the granting of an additional stopping allowance for travel agents – indicated Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Development, Labor and Technology Jarosław Gowin.

Forms of support
The Ministry reminded that the tourism shield includes forms of support for the industry, including exemption from social security contributions and other contributions due for the period from July 1, 2020 to September 31, 2020 (e.g. hoteliers, travel agents, pilots and tourist guides).

The shield also provides for the simplification of the rules concerning the parking allowance for travel agents, or additional parking, e.g. for land transport.

The shield also allowed for the establishment of the Tourist Reimbursement Fund, which gives tourism organizers and travelers the opportunity to apply for payment to travelers of money paid for tourist events that did not take place in connection with the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic.

It also regulates the creation of the Tourist Aid Fund, which in the future is to support tourism organizers in situations similar to the current crisis.

– We are in constant contact with the tourism industry. Being aware that she is one of the most affected by the current crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we are gradually offering her further forms of support from the Polish state – emphasized Deputy Prime Minister Gowin.

The ministry added that from October 15, ZUS, under the tourist shield, canceled contributions for a total amount of over PLN 23 million. It also paid the representatives of the tourism industry standstill benefits worth over PLN 3.5 million.
