Most of the disappeared children in the European Union came from Morocco, Algeria and Eritrea.
In Europe, between 2018 and 2020, 18,292 refugee children disappeared who arrived in the EU unaccompanied by adults and who were under public care. On Sunday, April 18, this was discussed in a joint investigation by the German media company rbb, together with the British edition of the Guardian and the Dutch TV and radio company VPRO, writes DW.
Most of the children who were “lost” came from Morocco, Algeria and Eritrea.
The investigation says that France, Denmark and Romania do not collect relevant data, and the Bulgarian government does not distinguish between minors entering the country with or without adults.
In Germany, between 2018 and 2020, 7,806 unaccompanied minors were reported missing, 7,082 of them were subsequently found, and 724 are still missing.
The Federal Criminal Police Office of Germany clarified that due to gaps in its own statistics system, these are only approximate data.
Experts note that such shortcomings in keeping statistics create risks of exploitation of minors.
Recall that the number of migrants in the world has grown by almost 110 million in 20 years… The five countries with the highest number of migrants are the United States, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Russia, and the United Kingdom.
Earlier, the international human rights organization Amnesty International announced worsening human rights situation around the world during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The United States has recorded the largest influx of migrants in the past 20 years.
