NEW YORK – Thousands of pro-Palestinian New Yorkers took to the streets of midtown Manhattan on Tuesday in a protest amid violence between the Jewish state and the Hamas terror group, which controls the Gaza strip.
The demonstration, titled “The Rally to Save Palestine,” began on the outskirts of the Israeli consulate in New York, where the movement’s security services instructed employees to return to their homes to ensure their safety. know an embassy spokesperson.

Several dozen pro-Israel protesters also gathered nearby and part of the massive police presence at the scene was used to separate the two sides who were calling out to each other.

A clip uploaded to YouTube shows a pro-Palestinian protester attempting to grab an Israeli flag waved by a participant in the pro-Israel rally behind a police barrier. Officers immediately seize and apprehend the suspect.
Another video posted on social media shows police officers restraining several screaming pro-Palestinian protesters, preventing them from gaining access to a bloodied Jewish man across a store window. How the man was injured remains unclear, as does the origin of the altercation.
Local media said police made a number of arrests, adding that the tense rally ended without further major incident.
A pro-Israel protest is scheduled for Wednesday evening in Times Square and is expected to draw a large crowd.
