Thousands of Poles take to the streets in Warsaw to support government

Since the right-wing conservative party Law and Justice (PiS) came to power in 2015, several reforms of the legal system have been implemented. This week President Duda put his signature under the law that was argued today.

“This is our constitutional right. What EU officials do is abuse of power. They have no right to interfere with our legal system,” the event organizer said.

“Order in the chaos”

He called on the government not to give in to the criticism of the European Union. According to the protesters, the law creates order in the chaotic legal system in the country. The corruption of judges who have been working since the Communist era must be cleared up.

Polish judges arrived last month in action against the government. They fear for their independence. Colleagues from twenty other countries also came on the silent journey.
