Thousands of people start 2023 with a new New Year’s dip

Sunday will be the hottest New Year’s Eve on record. The air temperature is about 14 degrees and the water temperature about 8 degrees, which means that the sea water will probably feel much colder during your New Years dive. “Normally it’s the other way around,” explains meteorologist Margot Ribberink. “In winter it normally feels like soaking in warm water, now it’s the other way around.” Though it can still be disappointing despite the warmer temperature: ‘Looks a bit on the thermometer, but wind chill on the beach with your wetsuit on, doesn’t look nice to me.’
