Blackburn Rovers open their stadium for prayers Eid Al-Fitr. Thousands of British Muslims came directly to the headquarters of the Championship division club.
Blackburn Rovers became the first English football club to hold Eid prayers. The Riversiders invites Muslims to pray at Ewood Park Stadium.
“To celebrate the end of Ramadan, Eid prayers at Ewood Park will be held on the day of Eid, from 9am to 10am,” read a statement on Blackburn Rovers’ official website.

The increase in the number of participants for Eid prayers made the organizers have to spread plastic tarpaulins to accommodate the congregation. The majority of Muslims who attended the Ewood Park Stadium were women.
The Eid prayer was led by Sheikh Wasim Kempson who was also the speaker of the sermon. Blackburn Rovers Chief Executive Steve Waggott and Mayor Derek Hardman took to the podium after prayers and thanked the club for hosting this event.
The Eid prayer at Ewood Park Stadium was positively welcomed by a congregation named Yaqoob. The 43-year-old man is happy to be able to celebrate worship together on the holidays.
“It’s a very extraordinary sight for so many people like it is today. There are young and old with families,” said Yaqoob, quoted from Lancashire Telegraph.
“This is what is meant by Eid. Pray in congregation together,” he said.
This Eid prayer service also involved many volunteers who were in charge of controlling traffic outside the stadium. The organizers also arranged church buses so that they could enter Ewood Park in an orderly manner.
