Thousands of people in German cities protest against quarantine restrictions – Abroad – News

In Dresden, despite a ban by the federal state court, several hundred supporters of the so-called “Querdenken” (Non-Traditional or Lateral Thinking) movement have taken to the streets, including Covid-19 deniers, vaccine opponents and right-wing and left-wing radicals.

A police spokesman said law enforcement officers were on their feet early in the morning to ensure that the demonstration ban was respected.

Many of the protesters do not wear face masks, which are now mandatory in Germany.

Demonstrators chant slogans such as “The pandemic is over!”

About 1,000 protesters have gathered in Berlin under the Ministry of Health. According to police, about 50 people have been detained for violating health and safety regulations.

About a dozen advocates of the opposite opinion have also come to the ministry and chant: “We will vaccinate you all!”

Meanwhile, in Stuttgart, hundreds of people have gathered under the slogan: “Once is enough!”

According to police estimates, the number is significantly higher than the 750 demonstrators initially registered. Police say 80 to 90% of protesters do not wear masks and do not respect social distance.

Police also had to disperse a crowd of several thousand protesters in Munich on Saturday at the Bavarian Landtag building.

“The demonstration was stopped by the police due to non-compliance with the rules,” a law enforcement officer said.

However, not all demonstrators complied with the demand to disperse.

In Düsseldorf, on the other hand, about 2,000 demonstrators were accompanied by a large convoy of about 100 tour vans.

Meanwhile, in Hanover, where a demonstration with 1,500 participants was announced, only less than 800 people have come to the campaign.

According to police, the protest is generally peaceful, and law enforcement officers are constantly monitoring compliance with quarantine rules, punishing violators.

In Magdeburg, about 300 people have gathered near the cathedral, while other protesters are moving through the streets in about 60 cars in violation of quarantine regulations. The police have not yet reported any other violations.
