Interfax reports that about 150,000 people are taking part in the campaign, which is called the “Heroes’ March”.
The participants of the procession are divided into several columns.
One of the columns along Independence Avenue goes to Independence Palace, where Lukashenko’s work residence is located.
Another column goes along Kalvarijas Street, the protest column also moves along Masherov Avenue.
Another column went along the Victory Avenue in the direction of Drozdai district, where the leading officials of the state live. However, as the Drozdis approached, the column was blocked by the Omons. They surrounded groups of people in front of the column, forced people to lie on the ground, and then took them to cars to transport the detainees. Dozens of people were detained.
The militias, who blocked the protesters’ way to Drozdai, also fired several warning shots into the air.
There are large militia forces and soldiers in the center of Minsk.
Dozens of people were previously detained when people in columns went from neighborhoods to the center to take part in the march. According to the Belarusian Ministry of Interior, about 250 people have been detained.
Protest marches also take place on Sunday in other Belarusian cities, including Brest, Gomel, Grodno, Kobrin, Lida, Mogilev, Polotsk, Soligork, Vitebsk, Zodina.
Detention of protesters in Grodno and Mogilev is reported.
Major protests against the Lukashenko regime in Minsk have also taken place on several previous Sundays.
