Thousands of people duped by so-called RDW sites | NOW

Thousands of people have now been duped by phishing sites that look like pages of the RDW. That tells the police RTL News.

The phishing sites pretend to be pages where visitors can buy a new registration certificate. After the transfer, victims never receive the promised documentation, because in reality the site has nothing to do with the bicycle organization.

Every day, the RDW would receive hundreds of phone calls and e-mails about the scam trick. At the moment, the scammers would use the sites rdwservice.nl, tenaamstellen.nl and tennaamcode.nl, but new domain names are added every week.

Also legitimate websites

The police has been reported to have been receiving reports about the phishing trick since April this year. The sites could not just be taken offline without investigation.

Because it is possible to take out license plates as a broker, there is also a chance that no criminals are active at every site. Scam artists devise variations of these legitimate website addresses in an attempt to lure victims.
