Frankfurt a.M. (epd). Over the weekend, thousands of opponents of the Corona measures took to the streets in several cities. In Hamburg alone, up to 13,700 people joined a demonstration on Saturday afternoon under the motto “The measure is full – hands off our children”, as the police announced. There were also larger marches by opponents of the Corona measures in Frankfurt am Main, Düsseldorf and Koblenz. In Dresden and Minden, on the other hand, people took to the streets to take a stand against the sometimes violent Corona protests of the past few weeks.
According to the police, the majority of the almost 14,000 demonstration participants in Hamburg came from the “bourgeois spectrum”. Overall, the demonstration was non-violent. However, police officers controlled a woman who was wearing a Star of David with the words “not vaccinated” on her clothes. A preliminary investigation was initiated against them on suspicion of sedition. According to the police, hundreds of opponents of the corona measures also gathered in Schwerin and Flensburg. There were therefore counter-protests in both cities.
In Düsseldorf, thousands of people demonstrated on Saturday against the possible introduction of a general compulsory corona vaccination. At the request of the Evangelical Press Service (epd), the police spoke of several thousand participants on Sunday without giving an exact number. According to the organizers, around 4,000 people were on the street. A total of about a dozen different initiatives, including the so-called lateral thinker movement, had called for the event under the title “Impfzwang nicht mit uns”. There were also several smaller counter-demonstrations. According to the police, the elevator was peaceful.
There were also protests in several cities in Rhineland-Palatinate. According to the police, around 3,000 opponents of the Corona policy marched through the city center in Koblenz on Saturday evening. In the meantime, the protest march, which had not been registered, was blocked by counter-demonstrators. According to the SWR, many opponents of the measure ignored the official request to wear a mask. There were further demonstrations in Trier and Worms. In Hesse, too, up to 8,000 opponents of the measures demonstrated in Frankfurt am Main on Saturday, as a police spokesman told the epd.
In the past few weeks there have been riots at several demonstrations by opponents of the measures. Hundreds of people in Dresden took a stand on Saturday against violent corona protests and for solidarity. Candles were placed in front of the Dresden Frauenkirche to commemorate the victims of the corona pandemic. The campaign was supported by the Lord Mayor of Dresden Dirk Hilbert (FDP) and the Semperoper Dresden, among others.
In Minden on Saturday around 2,500 people with a human chain expressed their solidarity with district administrator Anna Bölling (CDU), who is threatened by the so-called lateral thinkers. On Monday evening a group of demonstrating “lateral thinkers” tried to get to the Minden-Lübbeck district administrator’s private home. The police were able to stop them a few meters from the house.
