Thousands of people are on their feet in Amsterdam at a demonstration against, among other things, the corona measures. It is impossible to say exactly how many people are involved.
Many protesters walk with flags of other countries. There are also demonstrators with yellow umbrellas, which were also seen at previous protests. Some carry signs saying ‘When will the police wake up’, ‘Freedom for all’ and ‘Rage against vaccine’.
Tour through the city center prohibited
At the beginning of the afternoon, the group started a march through the area from the meeting point in Amsterdam Nieuw-West. The intention is that the demonstrators will soon return to the assembly point. A program is provided there until 5 pm. The police are present and keep an eye on things.
The organization actually wanted to gather in the Westerpark and walk through the center of Amsterdam. That was forbidden by deputy mayor Moorman, partly because it is too busy there.
Other cities
The demonstration was organized by, among others, the action groups United We Stand Europe and the Algemeen Burger Collectief. The demonstration is called World Wide Demonstration. Under that heading, demonstrations have been announced today in more cities around the world.
