Due to a failure when logging in to the University of Amsterdam (UvA), the online exams that about 3000 students were supposed to take this afternoon were canceled.
Some of the same number of students who were at home ready to take an exam this morning were unable to log in. Their exams have also been postponed. These are students from all kinds of faculties, including Law and Economics.
One of them is freshman law student Emma. She was about to start her Introduction to Criminal Law exam and saw a message on her screen about ‘failed service’, and then that there was a malfunction.
“I think it’s a great pity, because I had prepared well for the exam. Now I will probably have it next week, while the next block will start. That’s private law, actually the opposite, so that’s confusing.” Emma hopes that her exam that is set for Thursday can take place.
Cause
Whether that will work is not yet known. The university is investigating what caused the malfunction and is looking for an alternative way of taking exams that are scheduled from tomorrow. “It’s super annoying,” said a spokesman.
The spokesperson does not know how many of the 3000 students who had their exam this morning were unable to take it. According to several students, only a few could make it.
Sin
Another freshman law student had a weird morning. “Almost everyone was at home with a bit of the same tension. I couldn’t log in.” He wondered if it was his fault or if his fellow students had the same problem. “The app groups I’m in were completely spammed. Only a few people were able to get started.”
He could no longer concentrate and it “did not have to continue”, but he thinks it is a shame. “I prepared and now it is being postponed.”
