News from the NOStoday, 10:26

In the “partial” mobilization, a new setback has emerged for the Russian authorities. In Khabarovsk, a region in the Russian Far East, thousands of mobilized Russians were pushed back and sent home. They did not meet the criteria to be sent to the front. This was reported by Mikhail Degtyaryov, the governor of the region.

According to the governor, this affects about half of the men mobilized in the region. He says that the region’s army commissioner has been sacked, but that this has no consequences for the mobilization.

Almost two weeks ago, President Putin announced a partial mobilization, recalling 300,000 reservists. It quickly became apparent that many more Russians are being called. Medical personnel and demonstrators were also recruited. Images of the resulting protests were disseminated on social media. One man also shot a recruiting agent a registration office.

Errors in the recruitment phase

Last week Putin said mistakes were made in the recruitment process. For example, violence was used and people who were not registered as reservists were recalled.

In the video below, Putin discusses the mistakes that have been made.

Putin on mobilization: ‘Mistakes must be corrected’

Hundreds of thousands of Russians left the country after the announcement of the mobilization. Putin is now also trying to recruit foreigners. In a decree, the president promised Friday that foreigners and stateless persons who join the Russian military can now more easily obtain a Russian passport for themselves and their families.
