More than 5,000 Israeli soldiers are reportedly disabled and undergoing rehabilitation by 2023, Israeli newspaper Anadolu Agency reported on Friday.
Among the newly decommissioned soldiers, around 3,400 people have been rehabilitated since the start of the war in Gaza on October 7, 2023.
The newspaper also said the number of people with disabilities is expected to rise to 12,500 by 2024, according to Israeli Defense Ministry estimates.
“Expectations for 2024 are surprising, as 12,500 fighters will be recognized as disabled, and this is a very cautious and conservative estimate, with the estimated volume of requests reaching 20,000,” said the Israeli news agency, quoted by Anadolu Agency.
The newspaper said that these figures do not include civilians injured since October 7.
Previously, Israel had launched relentless attacks on the Gaza Strip following a cross-border attack carried out by Hamas into Israeli territory on October 7.
The death toll of Palestinians due to Israeli aggression has reached more than 22 thousand, almost one percent of the total 2.3 million Palestinian population.
