A nurse is suspected of injecting saline into people’s arms instead of genuine doses at a vaccination center in Friesland

Authorities in northern Germany have appealed to thousands of people to come in for another injection of the covid-19 vaccine after a police investigation found that a Red Cross nurse may have injected them with saline.
The nurse is suspected of injecting saline into people’s arms instead of genuine doses at a vaccination center in Friesland, a rural district near the North Sea coast, in early spring.
“I am totally shocked by this episode,” Sven Ambrosy, a local councilor, said on Facebook when local authorities issued the call to around 8,600 residents who may have been affected.
While saline is harmless, most of the people who were vaccinated in Germany in March and April, when the alleged change occurred, are older people at high risk of contracting the life-threatening viral disease.

Police investigator Peter Beer, in a press conference covered by the German media, said that, according to the statements of the witnesses, there was “a reasonable suspicion of danger”.

The reason for the nurse, whose identity has not been released, was unclear, but had expressed skeptical views about vaccines in social media posts, police investigators said.
According to the NDR broadcaster, the suspect is being investigated by a special unit for politically motivated crimes.
