Thousands of euros in damage to the Sistine Madonna list for act of climate activist | Book & Culture

The damage climate activists have done to the list of Sistine Madonna in Dresden it reaches thousands of euros. Between 3,000 and 5,000 euros are needed to restore the list of works by the Italian artist Raphael, reports the umbrella organization of the Dresden museums.

In August, a man and a woman glued themselves to the frame of the sixteenth-century work. The painting was not damaged during the action. The restorers have now removed the glue residue from the frame.

Letzte Generation’s two climate activists are no longer able to visit Dresden’s museums due to the action. A criminal complaint has since been filed with the judiciary. The museum organization has also initiated civil proceedings to seek compensation.

Of Sistine Madonna hangs in Dresden since 1754. The work is the masterpiece of the collection of the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister. The museum also holds a number of works by Dutch masters.
