Thousands of dead shrimps were thrown onto the coast of the Khadzhibey estuary in the Odessa region. In some places, the pestilence reached 15 centimeters.

The corresponding photos were published by the edition Odessa.online… In particular, the sea was observed in the area of the Tikhoe village of the Usatovskaya OTG.

According to an eyewitness, most of the dead shrimp are probably at the bottom.

Thousands of shrimps were washed ashore.

“When we entered the water, dead shrimps rose along with the silt. Apparently, the fact that on the shore is only a small part, and more shrimps are at the bottom,” he said.

The cause of the pestilence may be the “bloom” and reproduction of blue-green algae, which is caused by heavy rains and high temperatures of air and water, said Olga Rudey, head of the department of ichthyology and fisheries regulation of the Black Sea Fisheries Patrol.

Probably even more of them are at the bottom.

It could also be related to the release of hydrogen sulfide. According to her, the pestilence began at the end of last week, and usually this phenomenon has been observed in May-June for five years.

Thousands of shrimps were washed ashore.

“Due to these processes, oxygen leaves the water, which is so necessary for aquatic biological resources. It is also associated with a strong release of hydrogen sulfide, which, like algae, is very toxic. The release occurs at the bottom, then the hydrogen sulfide rises to the surface. From here we see such white stains and we feel a specific smell. Since the shrimp is deep-sea, it suffocates, “- said Rudey.

The oxygen level in the Khadzhibey Estuary, as shown by studies, is critically low.

“If the norm is four milligrams per liter, then there is less than two, or even one,” explained Olga Rudey.

The pestilence occurred in the area of the Tikhoe village.

As reported OBOZREVATEL, in the Brovarsky district of the Kiev region in the Nedra River, a sea of fish was recorded. The water in the riverbed turned brown, and the next day the roach began to die.
