Thousands of conspiracy theorists write to the Tax Authorities: I want my 1.5 million euros

The conspiracy theorists have been led to believe that they no longer have to pay taxes, or are still bound by Dutch laws and regulations. Anyone who succeeds in ‘detaching’ from the Dutch state will also receive 1.5 million euros and any mortgage debt will lapse, or so the promise.

The Tax and Customs Administration received at least 7900 letters. Behind many of these letters is a PR adviser from Amsterdam, who calls himself the ‘minister’. He asks hundreds of euros per person for help with these applications, reports NRC† “There’s a lot of money in your birth trust, a lot of money. And that money is yours,” he says in videos circulating in groups on Facebook and Telegram.

Heir of a company in the Netherlands

Eleven people went even further than just writing a letter to the tax authorities. They appealed to the judge. According to them, there is a trust fund behind the Tax Authorities that is managed by, among others, the King and Prime Minister as CEO of the trading company Nederland. As heir to this company, every Dutch person would be entitled to an inheritance of 1.5 million euros.

At the end of February, the District Court of the Central Netherlands ruled. He disagrees with the letter writers. Moreover, the ‘Trust Tax Office’ that is addressed by them does not exist, writes the court.

The Amsterdam PR advisor informs NRC that he does not know anyone who has ever received his or her birth trust. He does not want to answer other questions to the newspaper.

false prophets

“Do not believe in false prophets”, warns State Secretary Marnix van Rij (Taxation). “Anyone who writes a letter will receive a proper answer,” says a spokesperson for the Tax and Customs Administration. The officials who do that ‘could also have helped people with a justified request’.
