Thousands of anti-vaccines protest in Australia against vaccination mandates

Several thousand protesters gathered this Saturday, February 12, in the Australian capital, Canberra, against vaccination mandates against COVID-19, blocking roads and disrupting life in the Australian capital. Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison urged protesters to keep their protests peaceful. “My message to them today is that Australia is a free country and they have the right to protest, and I would ask them to do so in a peaceful and respectful way,” Morrison told reporters in Sydney. Australia, which will open its borders to tourists later this month, has 94% of those over 16 on the full two doses, but the country is still battling a wave of the highly transmissible Omicron variant.

At least 64 coronavirus deaths were reported in Australia on Saturday.
