Thousands in Paris take to the streets against police brutality | Inland

The latest demonstrations also saw skirmishes with the police here and there. Rioters set off fireworks. The police responded with tear gas, among other things. Cars were also set on fire during riots in Paris.

The demonstrators find the government’s concessions regarding the security law insufficient. A few days ago, Paris had announced that it was revising a particularly controversial article of the law aimed at limiting the spread of images of police officers. But according to the critics, the images can actually help to demonstrate violence by the police.

The protesters want the passage to be completely deleted. The law also includes other hotly criticized measures, such as the expansion of video surveillance by the police, for example during demonstrations and with the help of drones. They are supposed to be used to protect the police.

French president Macron announced on Friday that he will set up an online platform early next year on which people can report discrimination, for example by the police. Some police unions have already sharply criticized this plan.
