Thousands of worshipers from all over the country gathered this year in the monastery “Holy Trinity” on the Forest of the Cross in the Rhodopes on the occasion of the great Christian holiday Exaltation of the Holy Cross – the Day of the Cross, which is celebrated on September 14.

The laity began arriving at the holy place on Saturday. People believe that this is the place of one of the points in the world where “God descends to earthly people.” Relying on the legends that on the night before the feast, prayers are heard in this place, tonight they will address their wishes to the Lord, glorifying His name as well. A large part of them will stay in the meadows all night under the open sky, where they will listen to the hierarch’s services – the Festive Vespers, and then the Festive Morning, which will be celebrated in the church “Protection of the Blessed Virgin”.
According to Father Visarion, who serves in the church, the Festive Vespers will begin at 7:00 p.m. tonight, and the Festive Matins will begin at 10:30 p.m. The Hierarch’s Holy Liturgy will begin at midnight. Tomorrow early in the morning at the top, where the Holy Cross is placed, a holy water will be celebrated for the health and prosperity of the Bulgarian people.
The place got its name from the legend that centuries ago a part of the Lord’s Cross itself was buried there, which is the cause of many healing miracles. Talking to each other about those cured of serious illnesses, people expected the miracle to enter their home. Everyone who decides to spend the night in the open air says that he is full of energy, that he is here for another year and that he will return again. One of the places where all worshipers must visit is the metal cross with the crucifix, located at the top after the chapels dedicated to the 12 apostles. They leave a gift and touch it again with prayer and hope for health.
Krastov Vrah is located in the Rhodopes, where people believe that this is the place of the world, where “God descends to the earthly people” the territory of the municipality of Lucky, 6 km from the village of Borovo, and consists of a monastery complex with the church “Protection of the Most Holy Mother of God”, the church “Holy Trinity”, the complex “12 Apostles”, consisting of chapels on both sides of the path to the Cross with the crucifix. According to the legend, a large monastery was built on this peak, in which a part of the Lord’s Cross was kept. In recent years, among Orthodox Christians, the Holy Monastery has become widely known as a Christian shrine and place of worship. This area is 1545 m high and is a round meadow surrounded by dense beech forests.
Exaltation of the Holy Cross or more popularly known as the Day of the Cross is one of the twelve great Christian holidays. The Bulgarian Orthodox Church worships the Cross four times a year – on the third Sunday of Lent, called the Adoration of the Cross, on Good Friday, August 1 and September 14. In order to facilitate the trip to Kastova gora from yesterday to September 15, the repair of the road Yugovo – Lucky is stopped, part of which is the route to Krastova gora.
