Thousands Fleeing Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia Amidst Military Operation

The blast outside the regional capital Stepanakert happened as residents lined up outside a warehouse to buy fuel for their cars before fleeing to Armenia.

The Armenian government announced on Tuesday morning that 13,350 refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh, or about 12% of the population of Nagorno-Karabakh, have already arrived in Armenia.

It has already been reported that thousands of Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh have fled to Armenia after last week’s extended military operation by Azerbaijan, which resulted in the capitulation of the authorities of the Armenian Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh, which existed “de facto” for more than 30 years, to Baku.

Although Azerbaijan has promised to respect the rights of ethnic Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh and end its ten-month blockade of the region, many Nagorno-Karabakh residents have decided to flee to Armenia, fearing reprisals from Azerbaijan.
