“Thousands Demand Action and Resignations at ‘Serbia Against Violence’ Rally in Belgrade”

A large-scale “Serbia Against Violence” rally in Belgrade on Monday brought together thousands of people who demanded the resignation of the leadership and decisive action in connection with two mass shootings last week.

Writes about it “European Truth” with reference to N1.

Protesters gathered on Monday evening in front of the Serbian parliament, where their demands were announced: the dismissal of all members of the media regulator and the closure of media outlets that “contribute to violence and immorality”, among which the pro-government channels TV Pink and Happy were named.

They also called for the resignation of Serbian Interior Minister Bratislav Gajic and the head of the Security and Information Directorate, former Interior Minister Alexander Vulin. Some of them also demanded that President Aleksandar Vucic also resign.

The protesters said the government must fulfill their demands by Friday, May 12, or “Serbia will stop.” They also demand to convene a meeting of parliament and discuss the responsibility of the government for the tragedy.

In addition to Belgrade, “Serbia Against Violence” actions began in some other Serbian cities. Organizers said more than 50,000 people took to the streets. According to AFP agency estimates, there were more than 10,000 protesters in the capital of Serbia.

Recall that last week in Serbia there were two mass executions – at a school in Belgrade on Wednesday and in the vicinity of the Serbian capital on Thursday, as a result of which eight people were killed. The suspects in both cases – a 13-year-old teenager and a 20-year-old boy, respectively – are in custody.

After the shooting, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced large-scale legislative amendmentsto tighten control over the carrying of small arms. The education minister has resigned.
