The Swiss Seismological Service at ETH Zurich has recorded an earthquake in the Bernese Oberland near Mürren. The quake occurred on Thursday at 7:38 p.m. and had a magnitude of around 3.5 on the Richter scale. The earthquake was likely to have been felt in the region around the epicenter. However, no damage is normally expected with such strength.

A watson user experienced the earthquake first hand in her apartment in Mürren: “I was cooking, then there was a bang. I thought the heater had exploded.” It thundered like in winter when the mountain railways caused avalanches.
Christoph Egger, director of the Schilthornbahn, did not personally feel the shock. “We did a tour in the morning for safety reasons. “The earthquake has no impact on rail operations,” says Egger. However, no damage is normally expected with an earthquake of this magnitude. Earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 or more are generally felt by people. Buildings can be affected by moderate earthquakes of magnitude 4 or greater.
