Banking federation Febelfin is negotiating with the government about a universal banking service, whereby the banks must offer basic services for non-digital customers. According to De Tijd, maximum prices will apply. The newspaper talks about a maximum of 60 euros per year, for which non-digital customers can open a current account with a debit card in a package with at least 60 manual transactions per year, at least 24 cash withdrawals at a bank’s ATM per year and the printing of account statements in the bank branch. A reasonable rate must be charged for sending extracts.
The agreement is currently being finalized, according to the sector. Agreement has yet to be reached on a number of matters. It is expected that the green light for the charter will follow within a few days.
