Those vaccinated with Sputnik are not allowed to travel to the United States

Under the new rules, which take effect on Monday, the U.S. will accept any vaccine that has been approved for regular or emergency use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration or the World Health Organization. This includes

  • a Pfizer,
  • a Modern,
  • a Johnson & Johnson,
  • AstraZeneca
  • and Chinese Sinopharm and Sinovac vaccines

but Sputnik V does not.

Sputnik V is used in about 70 countries worldwide. Almost one million received it in Hungary. Of the EU member states, apart from Slovakia, only Hungary vaccinated with the Russian vaccine, but in Slovakia it was administered to only 20,000 people from Sputnik. In August 2020, Russia was the first in the world to authorize a vaccine against the coronavirus. The WHO is investigating the vaccine, but due to continued delays, it is uncertain when it could be added to the emergency use list.
