Music occupies an essential place in the United States. Some songs have even marked the history of the country.
The first of the American anthems is obviously The Star-Spangled Banner. The national anthem was composed in 1814 by Francis Scott Key during the Anglo-American War of 1812. Since then, it has been repeated many times, from Whitney Houston to Marvin Gaye, passing by the famous version of Jimi Hendrix to the electric guitar at the Woodstock Festival in 1969.
Among the most famous songs are also those that tell the story of American society. We think for example of I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor, released in 1978. The tube, which coincides with the arrival of the AIDS epidemic, will be adopted by the gay community and will gradually become the rallying cry for all those who feel marginalized.
En 1987, sort La Bamba from Los Lobos. For the first time ever, a song in Spanish is ranked number one in the United States. An event in the history of music because segregation has left its mark and it is still frowned upon to speak Spanish in some southern states.
