The Redmond ones make passwords optional for MSA accounts. Microsoft is taking a big step towards a “no password” feature by making passwords optional for personal MSA accounts.
Previously, the company enabled passwordless login for business users earlier this year. Now it is following up by allowing consumers to ditch their MSA account password in favor of more secure alternatives.
“Starting today, you can completely remove the password for your Microsoft consumer account. Use the Microsoft Authenticator app, Windows Hello, a security key, or a verification code sent to your phone or email. With this you will be able to log in to your favorite applications and services, such as Outlook, OneDrive, FamilySafety and more ”. This was explained by Vasu Jakkal, CVP of Microsoft Security.

The reason Microsoft believes that not using passwords is the future is pretty simple. Not only is it impossible for humans to remember multiple complex passwords. In addition, pirates can also obtain them through various means, including social engineering techniques. For an organization, a hacker who manages to breach a single account could have truly devastating consequences.

In order not to have a password with the personal Microsoft account, we must first install the application Microsoft Authenticator on the iOS or Android device and log in there with the account. Once you’re ready, you can visit account.microsoft.com, sign in, and choose Advanced Security Options. At this point, there should be an “Account without password” option that we can activate.
