Fog and cool weather also respected tradition on Monday, November 11, the day commemorating the armistice of the First World War. Only the Bleuets de France, symbols of support for the victims of France, worn as a cockade by the guests, and the tricolor flags provided a little color around the war memorial, on the Edmond-Michelet roundabout in Dijon.
Current geopolitical situation
A “Victory and Peace” ceremony chaired by Paul Mourier, prefect of Côte-d’Or, and in the presence of the military and civil authorities of the region. Students from several colleges in the metropolis, including so-called Defense classes – which have a partnership with one of the military units of the three armies (Editor’s note) – were present. After the presentation of decorations and the rekindling of the flame, the prefect spoke. A strong speech, imbued with memory, as a parallel with the current geopolitical situation.
“The war is changing face”
“At a time when the tragedy of war has made a comeback in Europe, at a time when certain powers are calling into question all the foundations of international order and law, those of 14 and those of all wars whisper to us to continue defending peace. […] The face of war is changing, but from generation to generation, all the soldiers of France remain driven by the same desire to defend honor and the homeland,” he commented, in a confident but serious voice.
