Racing faces OHL on the occasion of the second day of the Jupiler Pro League. On the Limburg side, eyes will be on the very young goalkeeper who has been talked about a lot this week.
Quoted at Chelsea and compared to Thibaut Courtois, we can say that the first of Mike Penders was not missed.
Chelsea are reportedly ready to splash out on the young goalkeeper (€20 million is being discussed), who is “taking advantage” of Hendrik Van Crombrugge’s injury to seize his chance and become the number one in the Thorsten Fink.
“I don’t see any reason to bench him against OHL. He doesn’t let all the fuss around him faze him. Mike is and remains a down-to-earth guy. I haven’t spoken to him about it, when a big wave comes, sometimes you just have to wait and let it die down on its own. Starting to talk to him could provoke something unnecessary. He seems calm and is training very well. I don’t expect him to be nervous on Saturday,” the German told Het Laatste Nieuws.
Penders has only just turned 19, but he is already attracting attention. In the meantime, the priority is in the JPL with Leuven in his sights: “I haven’t made a final decision yet, but Penders did well and kept a clean sheet. So I don’t see any reason to change a winning team. I have two good goalkeepers: one young and talented, the other experienced. Hendrik will play in the future.”
