Thomas van der Vlugt, who was shown as a bachelor in the program of the same name and has been together with candidate Merel for several months, finds it difficult to go completely for someone right away. “I find it difficult to immediately go 100 percent for someone, even if I am in love,” says Van der Vlugt. “I don’t dare to jump in, because I don’t want to feel pressure that it has to succeed. I consciously slow myself down. You have to get to know each other well first, I think.”
In conversation with Janzen, the presenter tells that there has been a lot of attention for him since his participation in By Bachelor† He also tries to protect his girlfriend. “She has to endure a lot. A negative message always lingers much longer than a positive message. I know: today you are news, a hot topic, but tomorrow you will be forgotten.”
He sometimes gives her media training for fun. “She was recently interviewed for the first time. Then we will practice in advance. She can answer politically correctly, haha. Better than me.”
