Thomas Tuchel will become the new coach of the England team after reaching an agreement with the English Federation.
Tuchel knows English football, he coached Chelsea, the team with which he won the Champions League In 2021, he will replace Lee Carsley, who has been interim coach of the English since the departure of Gareth Southgate after the Euro Cup in which England reached the final against Spain.
The hiring of the German coach comes after England’s defeat last week against Greece in a gloomy match at Wembley within the UEFA Nations League.
The FAwho sounded out Pep Guardiola last summer, did not want to waste time and has hired a renowned coach, who left Bayern Munich last summer after not winning a single title with the Bavarians.
Tuchel, however, did win the Champions League, the European Super Cup and the Club World Cup with Chelsea, two French leagues with Paris Saint Germain and a German Cup with Borussia Dortmund.
The announcement will be official in the coming days and will mark the third foreign coach in England’s history, after Sven-Goran Eriksson, who was there from 2001 to 2006, and Fabio Capello (2008-2012).
His first matches with the national team will be during the next national team football break, from November 11 to 19, and his first big task will be the 2026 World Cup qualifiers that will begin in March.
