The German Thomas Tuchel, former coach of PSG and Chelsea, is said to be in advanced negotiations to become the new England coach after the surprise defeat against Greece. An appointment which would mark a turning point for the Three Lions.
England’s surprise defeat against Greece (2-1) last Thursday at Wembley shook the football world. The Three Lions, finalists of the last Euro, suffered a real snub by conceding the defeat goal in stoppage time, while they were already deprived of their best offensive asset, Bukayo Saka, who was out injured. A setback which could precipitate the arrival of a new coach on the English bench.
Thomas Tuchel, the big favorite
According to revelations from the German channel Welt TV, the English Football Federation has initiated advanced negotiations with Thomas Tuchel to make him the new coach of the Three Lions. The former coach of Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea, currently free since his departure from Bayern Munich at the end of last season, would be the big favorite to succeed Lee Carsley, who has been acting since the departure of Gareth Southgate after the ‘Euro.
At 51, Thomas Tuchel has solid experience in high-level football. He forged a reputation as a tactical and demanding coachcapable of getting the best out of his players. His time at Chelsea was crowned with success, including a victory in the Champions League in 2021, which earned him great popularity in England.
A bet on experience
If his appointment is confirmed, Thomas Tuchel would become the third foreign coach to take the reins of the England team, after the Swede Sven-Göran Eriksson and the Italian Fabio Capello. A choice which demonstrates the desire of English leaders to focus on experience and pragmatism to relaunch a selection in search of a first major title since the 1966 World Cup.
England need a coach who is used to handling stars and pressure.

Global Goal 2026
If signed, Thomas Tuchel’s objective will be clear: take England to the top at the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico. With players like Harry Kane, Phil Foden and Jude Bellingham, the potential is there to build a competitive team.
But before that, we will have to find some color in the Euro 2026 qualifiers after this misstep against Greece. The Three Lions will play big next Monday with the reception of Italy at Wembley, perhaps already under the orders of their new coach Thomas Tuchel. Response in the coming days.
